JOB OPPORTUNITIESThe censam project team are planning to recruit Postdoctoral Associates, Research Engineers, and Research Scientists for many of the research projects listed on this website. Further information can be obtained by contacting the individual MIT faculty or by sending your resume directly to censam@mit.edu. Graduate students interested in censam projects can write to the faculty for further information, but should apply directly to MIT Departments for admission. More specific list of current job opportunities can be found below. ![]() Research Positions on Continuous Monitoring of Water Distribution Systems This research project will develop and implement wireless sensor networks for monitoring water distribution systems in applications ranging from hydraulic operations, to leak detection and water quality. The project will build upon prior research at MIT (further information at here) and involve field prototyping at test sites in Singapore. We have immediate openings for several research positions in the project team. For each of these positions, desirable attributes of candidates include:
These positions will be based at the MIT SMART Center or at the NTU Intelligent Systems Center (IntelliSys) in Singapore with visits to MIT. Successful candidates will receive a competitive remuneration package commensurate with their qualifications and experience. Applications should include a cover letter and a full CV/resume, together with names and contact information of 3 references. Please submit applications via email to censam@mit.edu AND intellisys.jobs@gmail.com ![]() Postdoctoral Associate in Cyberinfrastructure for Environmental Sensing and Modeling MIT's Center for Educational Computing Initiatives has an immediate opening for an energetic researcher to play a leading role in the development of cyberinfrastructure for the CENSAM Project, which focuses on an integrated approach to the sensing and modeling of the Singaporean environment at multiple scales. This researcher will implement a flexible data archive on top of a distributed grid architecture to support the wide range of data acquisition and data flows within the CENSAM Project. Candidates should have experience in the following areas:
Experience in the following additional areas is highly desirable:
The position will be based in Singapore with extended visits to MIT, the initial appointment will be for one year, renewable. Salary will depend on qualifications and allowances for periodic travel to MIT and initially getting established in Singapore will be included. For further information, contact Jud Harward. ![]() Research Positions for Work on the Interaction of the Built and Natural Environment This research project focuses on characteristics of the natural environment that are important to buildings, including access to shortwave radiation for daylighting and photovoltaic and solar-thermal systems and urban canyon airflows that strongly influence heat transfer. Influence of buildings on the urban environment, notably diurnal temperature changes (urban heat island effect) and outdoor thermal comfort, will also be studied. The project has three immediate openings:
Applicants must have excellent technical, organizational, and communication skills. Positions will be based in Singapore and are available under the MIT SMART Center or within the Departments of Architecture or Geography at the National University of Singapore. Further information may be obtained from Professor Stephen K. Wittkopf at NUS (stephen.wittkopf@nus.edu.sg) for position 1, Professor Matthias Roth at NUS (geomr@nus.edu.sg) for position 2 or Professor Leslie K. Norford at MIT (lnorford@mit.edu) for position 3. Applications should include a cover letter and a full CV/resume, together with names and contact information for three references. Please submit applications via email to censam@mit.edu, stephen.wittkopf@nus.edu.sg, geomr@nus.edu.sg, and lnorford@mit.edu. ![]() Postdoctoral Associate in Environmental Fluid Mechanics We are looking for a post-doctoral fellow to perform laboratory studies concerning the fate of sediments released into open coastal waters in the presence of waves and currents. The project is motivated by land reclamation and dredging operations, both of which have the potential to cause significant pollution to Singapore's marine waters. The Fellow should have a general background in issues of water quality, hands-on experience in laboratory measurement techniques such as PIV, LDA, LIF, etc., and the mathematical skills to analyze collected data. The Fellow will be hired under the MIT Center for Environmental Sensing and Monitoring, and will reside primarily in Singapore to perform the work in the NTU Hydraulics Laboratory. S/he will also spend up to 2 months at MIT interacting with faculty and students. The contract will initially be for 1 year, renewable upon satisfactory performance. Interested candidates should contact either:
![]() Research Scientist / Research Fellow / Postdoctoral Associate for Integrated Modeling of Singapore's Environment (iMOSE) Research in CENSAM's iMOSE project will focus on multi-scale measurements and modeling of the biosphere and its interaction with the built environment. Research scientist/research fellow/postdoctoral associate positions are now available in the following areas:
Applicants are expected to have doctoral degrees in atmospheric, oceanic or hydrologic sciences, mathematics, physics or related fields. Applicants should have strong skills in mathematics and computation. These positions will be based at the MIT SMART Center in Singapore, with visits to MIT. Applications should include a cover letter and a full CV/resume, together with names and contact information for three references. Please submit applications via email to censam.mit.edu. ![]() Postdoctoral Associates for Hydrology of Southeast Asia We are planning to hire two Postdoctoral Associates to participate in a research project focusing on the hydrology of Southeast Asia. The selected individuals will be employed by the MIT SMART Center in Singapore under the supervision of MIT faculty. For the first position we seek an individual with experience in regional climate modeling and/or field monitoring of turbulent fluxes from the land surface to the atmosphere. For the second position we seek an individual with a background in soil science and/or ecosystem fluxes and an interest in field instrumentation. Applications should include a cover letter and a full CV/resume, together with names and contact information for three references. Please submit applications via email to gsherman@mit.edu. Responses by April 1, 2008 will be given priority. ![]()
